Standard: ID.1 - Students use a variety of digital tools and resources to identify and solve authentic problems using design thinking.

ITL Learning Priorities

It's easier...

It's harder...

Tools & Tips

ID1.a: Find authentic problems in local and global contexts.

ID1.b: Exhibit tolerance for ambiguity, perseverance and the capacity to work with authentic, open-ended problems.

ID2.a: Know and use a deliberate design process for generating ideas, testing theories, and creating innovative artifacts and solutions.

"I can use mindmaps to organize my work."

"Sometimes my work is held back by what’s available to me at school or at home."

"I find it frustrating when you follow the steps of a process and it doesn’t work.  Sometimes I get distracted or give up."

"Online tools make design easier...but they have limits. Sometimes I need access to more powerful software."

Introduce spreadsheets.

Have students use mindmapping software to "process the process" that they used..

ID2.b: Select and use digital resources to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks.

ID2.c: Develop, test, and refine prototypes as part of a cyclical design process.

"I like having a maker space in the library.  I can do things without grade pressure."

"When teachers grade the process and not the answer, it encourages us to problem solve."

"When teachers grade the final product, they don't always give credit for, or even know how much work we put into it."

"Some people thing that because the final project looks great that it was easy to do.  I five minute video takes many hours!"
